What it’s actually like to work at Altis

Schedule4 minute read

Most companies don't say this part out loud.

They'll talk about being people-first.
They'll talk about high performance.

But they won't tell you how those two things actually coexist because in many places, they don't.

At some point, one gives.
And more often than not, it's the people.

So let's be clear about what we're building at Altis.

High performance and being people-first are not trade-offs here. They are mutually reinforcing.

That's not an aspiration. It's how we operate.

The expectation and the exchange

We believe in being upfront about what it means to work here.

We expect accountability, ownership, and impact.
In return, we provide the flexibility, support, and long-term investment people need to do their best work and sustain it.

That's the deal.

We expect our people to take ownership of outcomes, not just tasks.
To contribute meaningfully to clients, teams, and the business.
To step into challenges, not around them.

And in return, we don't treat people as resources to optimise.

We trust them.

We give them the flexibility to manage work and life in a way that actually works.
We invest in their growth over the long term, not just what's immediately billable or urgent.
And we create an environment where people are supported to perform at a high level without burning out doing it.

That balance is deliberate.
And it's what allows performance to be sustained, not short-lived.

What it really feels like day to day

Culture isn't what's written on a careers page. It's what people experience in the moments that matter.

At Altis, that shows up in a few very real ways.

There's a level of trust that comes with how people manage their work. Flexibility isn't conditional or something you unlock later, it's built into how we operate, because we hire people we believe will deliver. The focus is on outcomes, not presenteeism.

There's also an expectation that people use their voice. Ownership here isn't just about doing the work, it's about shaping it. That means contributing ideas, challenging thinking, and having a point of view. It's how we get to better outcomes for our clients and each other.

Growth is treated as something that compounds over time. We don't approach development as a reactive fix or a one-off conversation. There's a consistent focus on building capability because long-term performance depends on it.

And importantly, we recognise that people don't exist in a vacuum. Supporting someone to perform at their best means understanding the reality of what's going on outside of work as well. That doesn't lower the bar, it makes it sustainable.

The honest part: this isn't for everyone

There's a certain type of environment this creates, and it won't appeal to everyone.

If you're looking for somewhere that will shield you from difficult conversations, carry your workload, or prioritise comfort over outcomes, this probably won't feel like the right fit.

But if you're motivated by clear expectations, meaningful work, and being surrounded by people who will both support you and challenge you to step up, then this is where people tend to do their best work.

That's not accidental. It's a result of being explicit about the standards we set and the environment we create around them.

Where our values show up every day

Our BOLD values aren't something we reference occasionally they're embedded in how we work, make decisions, and show up for each other.

Be curious

We don't accept surface-level thinking. There's an expectation to dig deeper, challenge assumptions, and approach problems with an open mind. Curiosity isn't passive here, it's how we unlock better outcomes for our clients and constantly improve how we work.

Own it

Accountability is non-negotiable. We take responsibility for outcomes, not just tasks, and we follow through on what we commit to. That includes having the courage to speak up, confront what's not working, and focus on what's needed, not just what's asked.

Lead with heart

How we work together matters. We build genuine relationships with each other and our clients grounded in respect, trust, and care. That shows up in the way we support each other, share knowledge, and invest in collective growth, not just individual success.

Discover a way

We're not a business that waits for perfect conditions. There's an expectation to solve problems, push through challenges, and keep moving forward. Being reliable, resourceful, and determined to deliver, especially when things aren't straightforward is a core part of how we operate.

When these values are lived consistently, they shape an environment where people are trusted to step up and backed to deliver.

Why this matters

A lot of workplaces unintentionally put people in a position where they have to choose.

Deliver results or protect your wellbeing.
Grow your career or maintain flexibility.
Contribute fully or operate within safe limits.

We don't accept that trade-off.

Because the reality is the best work doesn't come from pressure alone. It comes from people who are trusted, challenged, supported, and invested in over time.

That's what drives real impact. And that's what sustains it.

So if you're looking for an easy ride, this isn't it.
But if you're looking for a place where you'll be trusted to step up and backed to do your best work, consistently, then you'll recognise the difference quickly.

Because at Altis, we don't separate performance from people.

We build both deliberately, and together.
