Building a Future-Ready Data Platform for Mirvac

The opportunity

As part of its digital transformation journey, Mirvac recognised the need to modernise its legacy on-premises data platform. The existing SQL Server–based system was no longer keeping pace with the business’s evolving data requirements, limiting both accessibility and scalability. To support the company’s commitment to data-driven decision-making, Mirvac’s technology leadership set out to build a more agile, cloud-based platform that could deliver reliable, real-time insights across the organisation.

With more than 25 data sources feeding into its environment, Mirvac’s Head of IT and Architecture selected Snowflake as the cloud data warehouse and Matillion as the data ingestion tool. The next step was to identify a trusted partner with the technical expertise to deliver a smooth migration and empower Mirvac’s data team to adopt these new technologies confidently. Altis Consulting was chosen to lead this initiative, leveraging their proven experience in cloud migration, data engineering, and enablement.

The solution

Altis Consulting worked closely with Mirvac to design and implement a comprehensive migration strategy that aligned with the company’s broader digital transformation goals. The project involved rewriting and migrating all existing ELT pipelines from SQL Server to the new Snowflake platform using Matillion as the ETL tool.

A key priority was ensuring that Mirvac’s internal data engineering team could successfully transition from the traditional Microsoft BI stack to newer cloud-based tools. To achieve this, Altis embedded consultants within Mirvac’s team, providing hands-on mentoring, technical support, and practical training throughout the project. This collaborative approach not only accelerated delivery but also fostered deep knowledge transfer and capability building within Mirvac’s team.

A standout element of the solution was the implementation of Altis’s proprietary Altida Data Load Accelerator (DLA) framework. This tool automated repetitive ingestion processes and significantly streamlined data migration, allowing the team to efficiently move more than 25 data sources into Snowflake within an eight-month timeframe. By automating key components of the pipeline, Altis reduced manual workload, improved consistency, and enabled faster development cycles, ensuring Mirvac’s new data environment was both efficient and scalable.

The outcome

Through its partnership with Altis Consulting, Mirvac successfully transitioned to a modern, cloud-based data platform that delivers enhanced performance, reliability, and scalability. The new Snowflake environment has stabilised data ingestion processes and provided a foundation for advanced analytics and data-driven insights.

The integration of the Altida framework and the optimisation of ELT pipelines have created a robust infrastructure capable of supporting Mirvac’s future data needs and growth. Importantly, Mirvac’s data engineering team has emerged from the project with the skills and confidence to manage and evolve the platform independently, driving a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.

The project also demonstrated tangible performance gains compared to the legacy environment, with faster processing times, improved data quality, and greater agility in responding to business requirements. By modernising its data ecosystem, Mirvac is now better positioned to harness the full potential of its data, enabling smarter decision-making and ongoing digital transformation across the organisation.
